Environmental Safety and Health Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:

Edesia seeks an experienced Environmental Safety and Health Specialist to oversee and implement the company's environmental, health, and safety programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and promoting a safety and sustainability culture throughout the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Develop, implement, and maintain environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and laws.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the company's environmental, health, and safety programs and identify areas for improvement.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate potential hazards and minimize the company's environmental impact.
• Coordinate, audit, and track the EHS audit program.
• Oversee and supervise interdepartmental action items related to EHS compliance.
• Develop and implement training programs for employees to ensure they understand and follow environmental, health, & safety policies and procedures, including new hire onboarding training.
• Investigate and report on incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and develop and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and FDA.
• Maintain and update all required environmental, health, and safety records and reports.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to promote a safety and sustainability culture throughout the organization.
• Establish and monitor appropriate Safety Metrics in accordance with company requirements.
• Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory Compliance leadership.
• Collaborate with HR on Workers’ Comp cases, OSHA reports, and filings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety management.
• Knowledge of federal and state environmental, health, and safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and FDA.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in the food manufacturing industry preferred.
• Experience in performing job/task hazard analysis and specifying PPE required.
• Experience leading Safety incident investigations.
• Experience in a manufacturing plant is required.
• Experience in lab safety and DOT regulations, including warehousing and rail, preferred.
• Experience in Construction Safety preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• General office environment; occasionally visits production area. High utilization of office equipment, phone, computer, fax, etc.
