J. Goodison Company is looking for a first class electrician to join our growing workforce.  This motivated individual must be familiar with working in the marine industry. Multitasking and prioritizing are also a must, as there may be a number of active projects in our yard at any given time with various deadlines that need to be met.   Competitive salary and benefits based on experience.


  • Required 10+ years of electrical experience
  • Ability speak/read English
  • Journeyman license required
  • Proficient in marine electrical applications
  • Proficient in marine electronics
  • Able to troubleshoot electrical/electronic casualties
  • Demonstrate ability to read and interpret contract specifications
  • Proficient in reading technical publications and drawings
  • Proficient in understanding electrical symbols
  • Proficient in electrical trade math
  • Ability to train apprentice electricians
  • In depth knowledge of electrical codes
  • Knowledge of shipboard mechanical/hydraulic/electrical /pneumatic systems
  • Knowledge of basic hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, pipe wrenches, wire cutters, benders)
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency in operating amp, voltage, ohm meters, meggars
  • Proficient in troubleshoot marine generators and motors
  • Ability to operate power tools (drills, hole saws, saw-zalls)
  • Proficient knowledge of shipboard/shoreside electrical systems
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical safety/tag-out/lock-out requirements
  • Proficient in performing electrical maintenance, repairs, and casualty repairs on all bldgs.
  • Proficient in submitting purchase request for required parts
  • Knowledge of Personal Protection Equipment (Respirators, climbing harnesses, safety shoes, hearing protection)
  • Proficient in operating (man-lifts, scissor-lifts, ability to scale step ladders, staging, ship’s ladders)
  • Proficient in cutting, bending, installing conduit
  • Ability to lift over 50lbs
  • Ability to perform Electrician duties in adverse working conditions such as in excessive heights, on staging, in hot/cold temperatures, in confined spaces, high noise environments, ability to work around operating machinery
  • Ability to work extended shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Member must have personal transportation.
  • In depth knowledge of shipboard terminology, and shipyard safety
  • Must be able to board ships, enter confined spaces with limited visibility and have the ability to climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights to complete the job or inspections
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors under all weather conditions.
  • Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to interact with a variety of people in a variety of settings.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required of this position.
