Summary of Position

The Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining, monitoring and enhancing the local area network and remote accessibility systems.  The position will also be responsible for all hardware related issues including purchasing, installing, monitoring and maintaining.

Position Functions

The position will also be responsible for:

  • Administers a small, uniform site alone or assists in the administration of a larger or complex site
  • Set up user accounts, permissions and passwords
  • Resolve problems reported by end user by interpreting  non-technical communications in order to serve customer with skill and professionalism.
  • Conduct regular troubleshooting, which requires both technical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Monitor systems for needed updates
  • Install, administer, support, and maintain server hardware, peripherals, software, and operating systems.
  • Exposing and learning of Barracuda Firewalls, structures, VPNs, forwarding rules, WAFs and NGs
  • Training users in applications and operating systems fundamentals

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to train users in applications and operating system fundamentals and to write basic documentation.
  • Strong skills with most operating system commands/utilities.
  • Familiarity with most basic network administration tools and processes (examples – ability to boot/shut down a machine, add and remove user accounts, mount remote file systems, and maintain system database files (group, hosts, aliases, usermanager)).
  • Understanding distinctions between system processes/services and user processes, the authentication/authorization processes in use at the site, local and network resources and resource sharing, basic network concepts and practices
  • Familiarity with the basic Windows administrative tools and how to locate them (e.g., Computer Management tool, lowest-level Active Directory tools)
  • Must work well independently and in a team environment.

Other Requirements

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • BS/BA Preferred (preferably in MIS, Engineering or Business field)
  • One - Three plus years of network administration experience
  • Familiarity with network/distributed computing environment concepts (examples – ability to use the route command, administer routing and remote access service, and modify deployed group policies).
  • Programming experience in any applicable language

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit and work quietly, operate a computer, and communicate on a telephone. Must be able to lift computers, printers, boxes, and monitors - not more than 50 pounds.

Hours of Operation and Working Conditions

This position’s work hours are Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm, in a business-casual office environment.  This position will require occasional weekend work as well as after hours follow up to ensure that all team members are able to access and utilize internal data.
