Position Summary

The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation seeks a candidate to assume the role of Policy Analyst.  In support of Commerce’s mission, this position will work with the Secretary of Commerce, the Chief of Staff, and the Director of Communications and will play a key role in creating, advancing, and evaluating proposed policies for advancing Rhode Island’s economy.


  • Conduct research on policies, programs, and approaches within economic development.
  • Research and compile a variety of economic development data such as population trends, demographics, vacancy rates, etc.
  • Research and analyze economic development issues including legislation, policies, and market trends.
  • Work closely with legislative and communications staff to inform strategic communications and legislative advocacy efforts.
  • Provide information on state, federal and private economic and community development programs.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and issue briefs for audiences internal and external to the Commerce Corporation and the Executive Office of Commerce.
  • Manage projects across Commerce and affiliated agencies.
  • Duties as assigned.

 Professional Qualifications

  • At least one year of substantive professional experience and education related to economic development, planning, or public policy, with a strong emphasis on writing, analysis, and communications. Knowledge of economic development principles.
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Economics, Public Policy, or related field). Master’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate the methods and results of complex and data-driven analyses succinctly and understandably to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong policy research skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment.
