JOB SUMMARY:

The Quality Sanitation Manager in this role will be responsible for the overall sanitation of Edesia Nutrition through their direct efforts, and those of their team members. This position will be hands-on to support the master sanitation programs throughout the facility; responsible for developing SSOPs; Sanitation documentation maintained; validating cleaning process is effective and good sanitation practices are used. Organize and oversee all sanitization activities to optimize food safety objectives and maintain maximum quality. They support the training and chemical program used by the plant sanitation teams in collaboration with the Production Supervisors for each shift. They coordinate sanitation validations and activities with other functions such as production, maintenance, R&D, and quality inspection. The Quality Sanitation Supervisor, Sanitation Tech Lead and all Sanitation technicians report to them.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Management and implementation of the Edesia master sanitation program.
  • Directly supervise, and mentor the Sanitation Lead, and Sanitation Technicians and conduct weekly sanitation check-in meetings with them.
  • Ensure coverage of Sanitation Tech responsibilities during breaks and absences (vacation, PTO, call-outs).
  • Manage the performance and tasks of assigned staff and provide leadership to them by directing, mentoring, coaching, and developing them towards professional growth, enhanced job performance, and career satisfaction.
  • Perform daily inspections of the manufacturing facility and report any irregularities; initiate investigations and confirm follow-through on corrective actions related to findings, as needed.
  • Oversee and assist in the cleaning activities associated with general office and staff amenity areas, in addition to production areas, as needed.
  • Assume ownership over the general sanitation facilities management (i.e., waste program management, pest control program management).
  • Assign and assist the Sanitation Specialist with ATP’s of assigned areas and other areas as requested.  Develop corrective actions as needed.
  • Oversee and assist the Sanitation Specialist with managing the 3rd Party Chemical provider(s), Chemical Program, and Approved Chemical ownership.
  • Implement all GMP and HACCP procedures related to cleanliness, food safety, and pest control within the facility. Supervises sanitation team to ensure all procedures are followed.
  • Manage the cleaning and sanitation of all food surfaces, equipment, and waste disposal areas, as well as lead the CIP cleaning process.
  • Lead the semi-annual shutdown cleaning responsibilities of the production plants.
  • Review new machinery/equipment and processes from a sanitary standpoint and provide input to the team. Perform sanitary design reviews and create cleaning SSOPs for new equipment.
  • Manage garbage disposal/waste removal scheduling, invoicing, and troubleshooting.
  • Receive and interpret the EM results and guide the Sanitation Specialist on addressing non-conformances.
  • Review and report on trends of weekly EM results and implements corrective actions as deemed necessary.
  • Review and confirm the accuracy of MSS documents and quality of completion.
  • Oversee the management of the MSS as it relates to new equipment, and or changes in procedure or process performed by the Quality Supervisor.
  • Oversee and assist the Sanitation Supervisor in developing sanitation training for the entire site staff on cleaning, best practices, washroom procedures, dry cleaning procedures, and the appropriate handling, dispensing, and application of chemicals.
  • Oversee and assist the Sanitation Supervisor in the training of production personnel on new cleaning/sanitation equipment & processes.
  • Oversee and participate in the ozone treatment process of the production plants.
  • Responsible for training, administering, and enforcing company policy and procedures as directed by Quality Management.
  • Represent the Sanitation Department in the Daily Operational Meeting by collaborating with members from other departments regarding sanitation and food safety issues.
  • Perform 3rd party warehouse inspections, report findings to the Director of Quality, create detailed reports, and manage follow-up and corrective actions.
  • Maintain oversight of the sanitary transportation of food policy for Edesia trucks.
  • Demonstrate commitment to EEO and Affirmative Action Programs and responsibilities.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of food industry sanitation & supervisory experience or equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of food manufacturing processes and operations, preferably in a food, or beverage environment.
  • Strong knowledge of sanitation principles, food safety regulations, and industry standards (FDA, USDA, GFSI, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with other departments and external partners
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to direct, coach, and train associates as well as plan, monitor, and schedule work
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities and deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge of chemicals and usage.
  • Thorough knowledge of SSOPs and HACCP/GFSI schemes/ FSMA sanitation controls.
  • Knowledge of Sanitation Verification and Validation.
  • Demonstrate commitment to EEO and Affirmative Action Programs and responsibilities

PREFERRED:

  • Bilingual (preferably English/Spanish or English/French or English/Swahili).
  • Strong microbiological knowledge

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • 50% of the position will be spent on the production floor of an industrial food manufacturing facility, lifting, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling, some of which could be heavy (>15 lbs.) or require the use of carts. And repetitive tasks that are physical in nature. The rest of the position will be general office environment.
