The Quality Sanitation Specialist is a working Specialist who supports the Quality Project Manager and Regulatory Specialist with the monitoring and maintaining of all sanitation protocols that contribute to high quality standards and integral food safety processes. The Sanitation Specialist is also responsible for overseeing and enforcing all GMPs and sanitation SSOPs throughout the entire organization and playing a central role in developing, reviewing, and implementing all sanitation procedures.


  • Directly responsible for all activities involved in assuring the cleanliness, hygienic, and food safe status of new equipment, equipment repositioning, expansion projects, and/or newly acquired equipment support tools and accessories.
  • Continuously review, update, and develop sanitation procedures and protocols for new and existing equipment.
  • Assist the Production Department in training the departments’ staff on sanitation practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform daily inspections of the manufacturing facility and report any irregularities; initiate corrective actions related to findings.
  • Assume ownership over the general sanitation facilities management (ie. trash management, pest control program management).
  • Assist the Production Department in the implementations of new methods, procedures, and systems to improve sanitation and food safety performance, determine and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide direct support and assistance to the Production Department during semi-annual shutdowns to assure the cleanliness, hygienic, and food safe status of the facility and equipment, including use of CIP and Ozone.
  • Perform ATP’s of assigned areas, and other areas as requested.  Participate in investigations and develop corrective actions, as needed.
  • Perform 3rd party warehouse inspections, report findings to the Quality Project Manager and Regulatory Specialist, create detailed reports, and manage follow-up and corrective actions.
  • Initiate corrective actions on the weekly EM Program non-conformances and lead the execution process of cleaning any out of spec sites, in collaboration with the Quality Project Manager and Regulatory Specialist
  • Manage the 3rd Party Chemical provider(s), Chemical Program and Approved Chemical list.
  • Manage lab chemical waste removal (including monitoring waste and scheduling of pickups).
  • Conduct GMP inspections throughout the facility and communicate findings to supervisor and Quality staff.
  • Order and maintain proper storage of chemicals & cleaning materials/tools.
  • Manage the order, inventory, and proper storage of janitorial and gowning supplies, such as gowning uniforms delivery by Cintas.
  • Evaluate changes to the MSS as it relates to new equipment, and or changes in procedure or process.
  • Chemical training responsibilities – responsible for training entire site staff in the appropriate handling, dispensing and application of chemicals, in collaboration with Production Department. Assist the Quality Project Manager and Regulatory Specialist in developing, making recommendations on and implementing the sanitation budget.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Quality Project Manager and Regulatory Specialist.


  • Minimum of 2 years of food industry sanitation experience or equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of chemicals and usage.
  • Thorough knowledge of food safety regulations such as HACCP/HARPC, BRC, GMP’s, SSOP and FSMA sanitation controls.
  • Must have good communication, strong computer skills, audit experience, organizational skills and an ability to work collaboratively with all departments


  • 50% of the position will be spent on the production floor of an industrial food manufacturing facility, lifting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, some of which could be heavy (>15 lbs) or require the use of carts. and repetitive tasks that are physical in nature. The rest of the position will be general office environment.
