Primary Function:

Ensures proper accounting related to plant activities.  Reviews, interprets data from Plant Apps to properly record financial entries to the general ledger.  Coordinates and controls the budget (and longer-term plans) processes for profit & loss compilation.  Performs analysis work on the actual performance to budget or plan for variance reporting.  Works with all levels of management to acquire information and/or present findings.  Key member of Accounting group to work directly with GM to assist in their understanding of the financial results and variances.  Responsible for recording assets, depreciation expense and disposal activities for the company along with the analysis and recording of utility expenditures.  Prepares monthly financial package for reporting to Corporate (Rhode Island).

Essential Duties:

  • Prepares or supervises the financial reporting results monthly for the division.  Supervises the recording of fixed assets and the calculations of depreciation and disposal of those assets.  Coordinates utility postings with engineers to properly post the costs for this area.  Develops product cost standards based on Production, Technical and Procurement inputs.  Prepares and explains variances of monthly results to GM and other senior staff as necessary. This activity has a high impact on the organization due to the utilization of this information by management to make critical business decisions. Weekly and yearly financial forecasting. Budget to Actual variance analysis. Creates the annual Budget based on information given by department managers. Creates Mid Term Plan every 3 years.
  • Key accounting member for implementation of Plant Apps from accounting perspective as well as any upgrades to existing systems of record.  In addition, the Senior Accountant needs extensive system knowledge to create, design and formulate reports to be used for financial analysis and ad hoc reports.
  • Prepares special financial and statistical reports and analyzes unusual items on financial or control reports on an ad-hoc request basis from various members of the management group. Calculate information for Japan Reports.
  • Supervises raw material, supply and production inventory accounting, including overseeing the physical counting of the plant inventory and the reconciliation thereof of finished goods and raw material inventory for periodic internal audits as well as year-end financial audits
  • Tracks all RMA spending and follows up with project leaders; Capitalizes all closed RMA's on a quarterly basis; Maintains fixed asset file; Tracks all RMA spending in a year compared to Budgeted amount and reports on; Works with corporate accounting to ensure all assets are entered into their system
  • Backup to Controller and lead person for Accounting audit at year end
  • Other duties as required for plant accounting, analysis and other accounting areas as needed.  Ad hoc analysis and reports requested by management.
  • Creates Standard cost on all new parts.

Skills & Qualifications Required:

  • Extensive worksheet skills and experience
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to successfully handle multiple priorities at the same time
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management including senior management
  • Strong cost accounting background in a manufacturing environment, specifically process manufacturing

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting required
  • Five plus years actual hands on accounting experience; experience with manufacturer audits preferred.
  • Experience in SAP preferred but not required
