J. Goodison Company is looking for an experienced Shipyard Operations Superintendent.  This is a direct hire opportunity with a comprehensive benefits package, growth potential, and a competitive salary based on experience.

You will serve as a Shipyard Operations Superintendent reporting to the Shipyard Yard Manager and in this role, you will be responsible and accountable for the performance of the shipyard personnel for safety, quality, and scheduling including the administrative functions needed to support shipyard operations.

Work entails managing a workforce in order to accomplish a full array of maintenance and repairs.  Welding, Fitting, Pumps, Machinery Repairs and maintenance experience required. Candidate must have ship repair experience or heavy welding and machinery background.

The Superintendent oversees all key aspects of the project's progress; determines personnel, material, equipment and facilities needed, establishes basic priorities and work sequences, maintains balanced workload among subordinates through distribution of work projects and allotment of manpower, equipment and materials.

  • Directs activities in areas of safety and personnel, production, scheduling, material handling and quality and ensures compliance with all safety, quality, company and regulatory directives in conjunction with management
  • Implement and adhere to production costs including, but not limited to; employee and material resources, production budget, and scheduling
  • Establish and foster a safe working environment for all employees
  • Directs and coordinates shipyard operations within company policies and procedures
  • Responsible and accountable for the performance of craft supervisors and tradesmen for safety, quality, and scheduling
  • Translates company strategies into tactical plans. Creates and prioritizes necessary resources and steps required to accomplish goals on time
  • Advises company management team regarding manning and expense goals and ensures efforts are made to meet projections
  • Determines operations improvements in relation to safety, quality, manning, scheduling, etc.
  • You will apply a comprehensive knowledge of ship repair, overhaul and shipyard work operations coupled with a detailed and specific knowledge of all aspects of the cognizant      trade operations.
  • You will be responsible to ensure that an adequately trained workforce is available to execute both the shipyard planned workload and surge allowance.
  • Manage daily job activities and trades on assigned projects.
  • Maintains positive Customer relations, facilitating two-way communications between Management and the Customer, attends meetings as required.
  • Allocate job tasks to proper personnel.
  • Coordinates Subcontractor work, monitoring progress and facilitating communication between Subcontractor and production.
  • Prepare reports on work progress, and work schedules.
  • Ensure that the environmental and safety procedures are adhered to and constantly improved upon.
  • Assure compliance with HSE safety policies and company handbook are properly followed and enforced on all assigned projects at all times.
  • Attend and lead safety discussion at project meetings.
  • Perform similar, incidental and any other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum 10 years work experience in full-service Shipyard and/or Marina, and minimum 3 years Superintendent experience running projects.
  • In depth knowledge of parts, repair and maintenance processes of commercial vessels.
  • Administrative skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills. Microsoft Office Suite knowledge is required and knowledge of Microsoft Project is preferred
  • Ability to organize, motivate and lead yard employees
  • Proficiency in English; speaking Spanish would be a plus

  • Ability to redefine communication skills based on our diverse audience, use active listening      skills and non-verbal rapport building skills and effectively communicate message to both small and large groups
  • Ability to motivate and connect with people with a sense of enthusiasm, passion and commitment
  • Considerable knowledge in all areas of ship repair, material handling, labor, safety.
  • 30/70% in office and out in the shipyard
  • Physically able and capable of performing the essential job responsibilities
  • Ability to plan a multi-trade, multi-task project.
  • Administer every aspect of ship repair projects including planning, scheduling, and production oversight.
  • Must be able to board ships, enter confined spaces with limited visibility and have the ability to climb up and down stairs and/or ladders of varying heights to complete the job or inspections - Must be able to work indoors and outdoors under all weather conditions.
  • Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to interact with a variety of people in a variety of settings.
